The Approval, regardless of the members that issue it, is the result of a favourable technical assessment of the fitness for purpose of materials, products, equipment or processes, such assessment being made taking into consideration safety, health, the use and sustainability of the works and any other matter related to works in which they are to be used. The Approval states the scope of application, conditions and possibly limitations.
The approval schemes aim to enhance the general level of quality and performance in construction by :
- offering to manufacturers, seeking innovation, a tool to check the fitness for use of their products at an early stage,
- delivering authoritative independent statements which provide a means of acceptance of such products in the market,
- providing users with guidance on the design of the works and the appropriate installation of the products,
- monitoring the performance of the approved products and systems by appropriate product certification and by reviewing periodically the experience of users and developments by the manufacturers.
